MCo created the Louisiana Cultural Economy Initiative as part of the comprehensive strategy developed for the Louisiana Department of Culture, Recreation and Tourism. MCo identified Louisiana’s culture as the state’s niche asset and was tasked to leverage the “cultural economy” and to develop major programs of the department.
As such, MCo developed the World Cultural Economic Forum as the premier project of the Initiative, which consisted of a media push that acquired millions of earned media impressions, “Passport” events that engaged every community across the state, and a high-level forum where national and international experts gathered to begin what is envisioned to become an annual dialogue on the cultural economy. MCo was responsible for branding, creative, messaging, earned media placement, program development, stage direction and structure of the project.
New media and social networking techniques were incorporated into the general outreach strategy with great success.
The event garnered significant national media attention and was covered in USAToday, Forbes, the Business Journal, and Salon.com among many others. Virtually every significant Louisiana news outlet previewed the event including the New Orleans Times Picayune and Baton Rouge Advocate. MCo also arranged to have then First Lady Laura Bush tape a video for the event, further increasing the event’s exposure.
The creative and interactive website, wcefculture.com garnered millions of hits and helped visitors plan their travels. Social networking was utilized and by creating an interactive group page and targeting Facebook members who had listed certain key terms in their interests, the WCEF group page grew substantially within weeks.
The final result of the World Culture Economic Forum was to attract thousands of tourists, generating millions of dollars of income for the state.
